Bot War 3 F.A.Q

Bot War 3 F.A.Q

This is a living document to address any Frequently Asked Question concerning Bot War 3, the Campaign books or the Faction Guides.

Bot War 3 Rulebook

Strategy Rating

Q. If both players have units with multiple identical Strategy Ratings, does the player with Priority activate 1 or all of their units before their opponent.

A. The player with Priority will activate all of their units tiebreaking Strategy Rating before their opponents units.

Q. Do Strategy Rating activate from low to high or high to low?

A. Strategy Ratings work in ascending order so the lowest number activates first and the highest number activates last.

Platoons and Squadrons

Q. Do Platoons and Squadrons count as 1 unit or 3?

A. Platoons and Squadrons always count as single unit regardless of how many models are remaining in the Platoon or Squadron.

Q. Do Platoons and Squadrons have the Sustained Fire Special Rule?

A. Yes, all Platoons and Squadrons in the game automatically receive the Sustained Fire Special Rule.

Q. How do Squadrons get Sustained Fire if they are Dedicated Flyers as it says Dedicated Flyers are always long range and can’t boost?

A. Sustained Fire is a Special Rule and can therefore be used by Squadrons with Dedicated Flyer. So a Squadron would lose a dice for being at long range but can still use Sustained Fire at short range.

Super Abilities

Q. Is Air Attack and Air Support the same? And is Artillery and Artillery Support the same?

A. Yes to both.

Ranged Attack

Q. If a unit has RA1 and wants to shoot long range will it lose a dice and effectively not be able to shoot with RA0?

A. Yes, RA1 will move to RA0 at long range and will not be able to shoot.

Close Attack

Q. Does the defending unit receive a bonus shield dice for each additional defender in a melee?

A. Yes, just like for multiple attackers, multiple defenders receive as many additional defence dice as there are multiple defenders in base-to-base contact with the same attacker.

Q. Can you disengage from base-to-base contact if a unit takes damage from hugging?

A. Yes, if a unit attempts to hug and takes damage, then the opponent can disengage as normal 1”.

Vehicles

Q. As Vehicles cannot make Close Attacks is it possible for them to disengage?

A. Even though Vehicles cannot make Close Attacks they can still disengage if an enemy unit takes damage from a failed hug attempt.  Note, Vehicles also contribute a multi-attacker bonus despite not being able to fight themselves however this would not permit a disengage because the vehicle didnt cause the damage directly.

Efficient

Q. What does it mean to perform an activation for “free” in regards to the Efficient Special Rule? Does it not count as an activation or does it not cost energy?  And what is an activation such as Ram Attack costs 2 energy points?

A. Efficient means that using one of your activations will not cost any energy.  This means that regardless how much an activation may cost in Energy Points, Efficient lets you make that activation for no cost.  So its a great way to not have to pay the cost of Super Abilities like Ram Attack or Adrenaline!

Symbiotes

Q. Can Symbiotes start the game hosted?

A. Yes, Symbiotes can choose to start the game hosted but must pay the energy points for maintaining Stealth at the start of the game

Missions and Objectives

Q. In Mission 6 Escalation, what takes priority in regard to deployment, the mission rules or the stat card Special Rules?

A. The Mission deployment rules for Escalation take priority over any individual unit’s Special Rules for deployment.

Q. When can Objectives be claimed in Bot War 3?

A. Objectives can be claimed from turn 2 onwards in most cases, however in order to claim an Objective the claiming unit must have spent 1 full turn on the Objective. This means that a unit can move to an Objective in Turn 1, spend Turn 2 on the Objective, and move off in Turn 3 having claimed the Objective. Note:  This is different in the 2025 Campaign Book in which units do not have to wait a full Turn in order to claim the Objective.

Choosing Units and Upgrades

Q. Is it possible to take multiples of units or upgrades?

A. A unit or upgrade can only be taken once unless it is marked with a gold star. A gold star on any stat card or upgrade card denotes the ability to take the unit or upgrade multiple times.

A. Both receive the Close Attack bonus for being a General Unit Class.

Q. Are the Drone Platoons classed as vehicles?

A. Yes, as long as Nightmare is in base-to-base contact the ability is in effect.

Q. How long does Nightmare’s ability last?

A. Nightmare’s conferred benefit immediately ends when not in base-to-base contact anymore.
